“During the Cretan campaign, Hull acted as Regimental. D.R., and during the whole time of the enemy attack, lasting 7 days, he untiringly and courageously carried out his job, despite all enemy action. On 21 May he was sent to No.7 General Hospital to draw urgent medical supplies, but was cut off by parachute troops. Whilst attempting to break through he was machined gunned and dive-bombed, and had to seek refuge behind the enemy for three hours. Towards evening he ran the gauntlet of parachute troops, and brought the supplies through safely. His coolness in the face of danger on this and many other occasions was outstanding.” – Gazetted Citation.
