“On Crete as a battery medical Orderly, this man always did his job in a manner worthy of the highest traditions of the A.M.C. During heavy bombing on the evening of 25 May 1941 seven casualties were sustained. Findley went out into the open to the wounded, and whilst he was doing this enemy planes flew over and machine gunned him and the wounded for 20 minutes. Whilst this was happening he moved the wounded into a gutter so that they would be safer and finally helped to get them to the hospital some distance away. Next day, whilst working in the R.A.P. it was bombed, and a number of the occupants killed. Findley was buried but extricated himself, and with great fortitude and courage carried out first aid amongst the wounded until himself collapsed.” – Gazetted Citation.
