6th Division in Action in Greece & Crete.

Picture
Sent to me today by the grandson of Gunner Ern Moor VX933, is this 26 minute YouTube documentary of the Battles of Greece & Crete in which many of the 2/2nd Field Regiment were heavily involved in these conflicts. The title ANZAC was made using archival footage from WWII cameramen and supplied by The Australian War Memorial. Being on YouTube it is readily accessible. I acknowledge the AWM and YouTube for the documentary and Chris Williams for the advice and note.

A Little Bit of History!

Picture

I received a phone call from friends who are on tour and currently in Galle, Sri Lanka.
Part of the 2/2nd Regiment were sent to Galle, (then) Ceylon in 1942 so I sent them the receipt below to see if the order was ready to collect!
My father, Ron Fallon-VX53739 placed this order for 2 Fish & chips (1.30) and 2 puddings (.40) on Saturday night 18 April 1942!! Yes, 78 years and 7 months ago today. Either he was very hungry or shouted someone a meal.
Hopefully I'll get a photo back of the approximate area.

A follow on from yesterday with a couple of photos received from Pedlar Street, Galle. Further info still to come as "someone knows someone" who might remember the shop! My mate and his wife are "thankful" of the diversion as they think Galle is a once only place to visit!!!
I have also sent them a business card of a jeweller who had a shop in the Sydney Hotel in Galle in 1942 and they are off to investigate. The Sydney Hotel still exists with photo of hotel to come later today. Acknowledgement to Rob & Karena  for their detective work and photos.
Business card from 1942 of Albert De Silva & Co, Jeweller, Sydney Hotel.

Denise Fetherstonhaugh writes to us from Albany W.A.
Remembrance Day was again afforded due recognition in Albany in 2024 with a service and wreath laying ceremony to commemorate the significance of the day by the local community.
Denise represented both her father Captain Dick Fetherstonhaugh and the 2/2nd Field Regiment & Association by laying a wreath (in red/blue colours) with other community organisations and local schools.
Thank you Denise for your ongoing commitment of Remembrance.
