Representing the 2/2nd Field Regiment Association were President Malcolm Fallon and committee member Robert Lennie. Life MembersThis week the association was thrilled to receive a photo of life member Len Creed -VX1070 - to add to our website. Len was made a life member of the association in 1973. Len was an active member of the association, serving as the honorary treasurer in the 1940's through to the 1960's, then vice-president, before becoming president in the 1960's. He was also an editor of our famous newsletter "Action Front". We would like to acknowledge Vikki Williams for supplying the photo. We are still seeking photos for our website, and particularly our life member's page. There are seven (7) photos still to find. If you can help, please contact us. We are seeking photo's for:

Anzac Day 2025 - MelbourneThe 2025 ANZAC Day numbers marching were down on previous as somewhat predicted with the day falling on a Friday and people utilising the long weekend and unseasonal conditions which saw a few having to work or be on standby in case of fires occurring across the state. Twenty six (26) marched led by President Malcolm Fallon. Three generations of descendants made up the contingent in fine conditions which stepped off from the corner of Flinders and Swanston Streets heading up St Kilda Road to The Shrine. There were also a couple who failed to locate us and marched with another Unit. Unfortunately, the messages published from the Association in "ACTION FRONT", on our Website and on Facebook whilst all consistent and in line with what our Secretary officially received from the organising committee, were at odds with what some but not all marshalling officials had. Thus there was some confusion about where to form up! Lessons to be learned: Follow what the Association prints to avoid confusion and "somebody will take charge and make it work"! Be assured the Association will be contributing to the operational analysis debrief to ensure everybody has a better experience in 2026. The crowd lining St Kilda Road were generous with their acknowledgements to the marchers which can be somewhat emotional at times. At the end of the march the "Annual photo shots" were taken courtesy of Ms Bethany Fallon and are all attached to this article. Special thanks and acknowledgement must also be given to our Banner Bearers from Oakleigh Grammar School. From L-R in the official photo are Connie, Ellie, John, Paul, Vasia and Kostas with teacher and organiser Mrs Natasha Spanos and President Malcolm. Following the photos we ambled down to the Rising Sun Hotel in South Melbourne where 17 enjoyed a lovely lunch and a cold drink. This number was also down on last year for similar reasons. We have made a booking for next year again for 40 people. We hope we can fill our quota! Overall, after a stressful start all turned out well and we look forward to next year. Visit to Brallos Pass MemorialReceived a message and some pics from 2/2nd Regiment friend, Historian & author Jim Claven who is currently in Greece presenting the documentary ANZAC The Greek Chapter. In between his busy itinerary, Jim has found time to find and visit the 2/2nd Field Regiment Memorial at Brallos Pass. Jim has sent a couple of pics back and commented that the cairn is in good condition and well maintained. The cairn is maintained by friend of the Association Dimitri who travels from his home twice a year to tend the memorial by cleaning and weeding the area. Dimitri also lays a wreath each visit in remembrance. Below are photos from Jim at the memorial and a picture of Dimitri during a visit. Thank you Jim for visiting and sending pics back and we also acknowledge Dimitri for his dedication and respect for the memorial. |
