Great courage and devotion at BARDIA on 3 January 1941.
“On 3 Jan 41 at Bardia the Battery commanded by this officer was detailed to support the infantry on the southern section. The defences were extremely strong and well concealed and observation could only be obtained from a flank with very exposed cliff sides. Major Arthur on the opening day of the battle crawled forward until he was able to observe, and though subjected to heavy machine gun fire he brought the fire of his guns upon the enemy post until late in the afternoon when he was seriously wounded by enemy hand grenades. Major Arthur’s devotion to duty made it possible for the infantry to press their attack on the post.” – Gazetted Citation
