“As C.R.A. of an Aust Div Brig. RAMSAY, by his personal enthusiasm, energy and capacity for overcoming difficulties has rendered most valuable service. Up to Aug. 1941 the artillery served in WESTERN DESERT where Brig RAMSAY was C.R.A. to the forces in MATRUTH. His work in connection with the MATRUTH defences, and in organization of artillery co-operation in desert offensive operations, was especially deserving of recognition. Subsequent to being relieved at TOBRUK (Aug 41 – Apr 42) the Div has passed through a strenuous period of refitting and training, and Brig. RAMSAY has succeeded in producing regiments of an extremely high standard of efficiency. He possess judgement, foresight and tact, attributes which combined with a strong and pleasing personality have ensured the fullest co-operation from officers and all units under his command.” – Gazetted Citation

Outstanding leadership and ability EL ALAMEIN Oct/Nov 1942.

"For outstanding leadership, ability and appreciation and for a very full contribution to the success of the Division in the battle at EL ALAMEIN from 23 Oct to 4 Nov 1942. Brigadier RAMSAY commanded the artillery with marked efficiency and to great effect. In this battle the Division made four major attacks, two of which were supported by thirteen Field Regiments and three Medium Regiments which came under his control. The artillery played a vital part not only in these attacks but also against Ramsay’s effective control, the clarity and expedition of his orders, and to his powers of command.” – Gazetted Citation.
